Fees for Dominican heritage plate

You pay a $40 surcharge when the plate is issued, in addition to your normal registration fee. Of that $40, $20 goes to the state and $20 is allocated to the Committee after it files its annual report. You also pay an extra $10 each time you renew the plate, and that $10 goes to the Committee. There are no refunds if you cancel the plate early.

New Dominican heritage license plate

You can get a Rhode Island license plate that honors Dominican independence and heritage. The plate uses your current registration number and is the same size as regular plates. The design is set with the DMV and approved by the State Police. The DMV issues the plate only after the Committee collects the minimum prepaid orders and files all required paperwork. Beginning six months after passage, the DMV runs this program.

Rules for how plate funds are used

Before it gets any plate money, the Committee must file an annual accounting report. Money from Rhode Island plate sales must be used to benefit Rhode Island-based charitable groups.
