Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Rhode Island drivers can get Honor Flight plate

Beginning six months after passage, Rhode Island drivers can get a Fire Chiefs Honor Flight specialty plate. The plate uses your current registration number and replaces your old plates, which you must return to the DMV. The design comes from the organization and must be approved by the State Police. Plates are only produced after the group collects the DMV’s minimum prepaid orders; the group handles the first order. The DMV sets prepayment and other procedures, and you must keep your registration certificate in the vehicle.

Plate funds support Rhode Island charities

Money raised in Rhode Island from these plates must support Rhode Island-based charities. The Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Hub must file an annual accounting before the funds are distributed.

Fees for Honor Flight plate

Beginning six months after passage, you pay a $40 fee when you first get the plate, on top of regular registration fees. $20 goes to the state and $20 goes to the Fire Chiefs Honor Flight Hub to support its mission honoring veterans. Each renewal adds a $10 surcharge that goes to the Hub. There are no refunds if you cancel the plate early.
