Lawmakers can hold 2025 elections sooner

The law suspends a rule that made lawmakers wait for final court rulings on congressional maps. From March 7, 2025 through December 31, 2025, the General Assembly can hold elections without waiting for those rulings. This only changes election timing and procedure. It does not change taxes or give people money.

Public Service Commission elections eased through 2026

The law pauses Section 2-20-15 for elections to the Public Service Commission run by the General Assembly. From March 7, 2025 through December 31, 2026, lawmakers can use different timing or steps to pick Commission members. This may speed up seating utility regulators. It does not change utility rates, taxes, or benefits directly.
