The law renames the Charleston County Airport District as the Charleston Regional Airport District and confirms it is a state political subdivision that can sue and be sued. It also renames the aviation authority and sets a seven-member board: two recommended by the county House delegation, two by county Senators, one by the City and County Councils, and two who serve by office (the Mayor of Charleston and the County Council Chair). Governor-appointed members serve four-year terms and remain until successors qualify. Terms begin on the first day of the month after the Governor’s approval. Vacancies are filled the same way for the rest of the term. Members may receive per diem, mileage, subsistence, and necessary expenses as allowed by law. The law takes effect May 8, 2025.
