Attorney general can investigate public officials

The law removes the attorney general’s prior power to start criminal prosecutions of judges and other judicial officials. Instead, the attorney general can investigate a public official for a state crime when there is probable cause. This applies if a local district attorney’s decision to prosecute could cause a personal, financial, or political conflict, or if there is a report of a violation of section 8-31-103. The law takes effect immediately.
