Expanded prosecution powers over judges and prosecutors
Tennessee's attorney general can investigate and bring criminal cases against judges, chancellors, elected judicial officials, and district attorneys general. The attorney general must receive information supporting probable cause to investigate a possible state crime. One of two additional triggers must apply. Local prosecution may create a personal, financial, or political conflict of interest in a district where the offense occurred, partly or entirely. Alternatively, the attorney general must receive a report of a violation of Tennessee Code § 8-31-103. The law took effect upon becoming law.
