Tennessee harassment law covers more online contact
Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee’s harassment law uses a broader definition of communication. It covers in-person contact, writing, print, phone, radio, and electronic contact, including verbal and nonverbal communication. Examples include texts, flyers, faxes, emails, and instant messages. It also covers messages, images, videos, sound and voice recordings, and other information sent through or posted on social media or websites. This broadens protection for people targeted by harassment and brings more ways of communicating within the law’s reach.
