Cities can hire certified public accountants as finance officers

Municipalities can contract with a certified public accountant to serve as the city’s finance officer. The contracted officer must spend at least 16 hours per month on the city’s finances. A city can get written approval from the Tennessee Comptroller to allow fewer hours; that approval lasts one year and must be renewed each year. The law takes effect upon becoming a law.
