Faster school record transfers for students
Tennessee school districts must send transferring students’ records within five business days after receiving a records request. Within the same district, the deadline starts when the sending school receives the request; records go to the receiving school. Between districts, it starts when the sending district receives the request; records go to the receiving district. Records must include academic, disciplinary, behavioral, and special education information. If records are sent for an intended transfer but the student does not enroll, the recipient must notify the sender within five business days after receiving the records. All transfers and notices must follow the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. These requirements took effect when the law became law.
