Counties can require bids for insurance brokers
The law lets qualifying Tennessee county governing bodies require competitive bids for insurance broker services. Counties must self-insure employee health coverage, paying medical costs directly to providers themselves or through a third-party administrator. They must also have adopted the County Purchasing Law of 1957, which governs the bidding process. Bidding is optional, not required. This authority took effect when the act became law.
