Faster nursing home inspections by 2027

By January 1, 2027, each licensed nursing home must have a recent inspection. The most recent inspection must be no more than 15 months before December 31, 2026. By June 1, 2025, the Commission must report to the legislature how it will meet this timeline. This aims to make checks more timely and improve resident safety.

Assisted-care living industry seat on commission

The Health Facilities Commission now includes one representative of the assisted-care living industry. That person is appointed from lists of qualified people sent by groups such as the Tennessee Center for Assisted Living, LeadingAge Tennessee, and Argentum. This gives operators a direct voice in oversight.

State seeks federal flexibility for health oversight

The Health Facilities Commission must negotiate with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for procedural flexibility. Talks must include seeking a block grant waiver amendment under 42 U.S.C. § 1395aa. The Commission must report progress by January 31, 2026 to the Speakers and health committee chairs. This does not change who gets benefits or money now.
