A soil scientist certified by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation can submit septic permit applications for systems under 750 gallons per day. The submission must include the completed application, the fee, the proposed design, an intensity soils map signed by a certified soil scientist, and a completed but unsigned construction permit. The state or contract county must review the submission within 10 business days. They must either approve it, reject it and list the problems, or ask for more information.
