Beginning July 1, 2025, your district or public charter school may let K-2 teachers use the state reading screener, or another board‑approved screener, to make a growth score. This counts as an approved alternative growth model under the department’s evaluation rules. Each district or charter decides whether to allow it. It changes how evaluations are scored, not base pay.
Beginning July 1, 2025, if pre-K students take a state‑approved universal reading screener, the district or public charter school must let the pre-K teacher use those results for a growth score. The results count as an approved alternative growth model or under the pre‑K/kindergarten portfolio model, following the department’s evaluation rules. This affects evaluations, not base pay.
The law takes effect on July 1, 2025. It also deletes two subsections (g) and (h) of Tennessee Code § 49-6-105 related to evaluations. The public summary here does not state what those deleted parts covered. This sets when the other changes apply.
