New training and test for online notaries

The course must teach notary laws, how online notarization technology works, and ethics. Your application must also include a signed statement that you read, understand, and will follow the law and the Secretary of State’s rules.

State approval for online notary courses

Starting January 1, 2026, online notary training courses must be approved by the Tennessee Secretary of State or a designee. Providers need this approval for their class to count for online notary applicants.
