English learners get language help during tests

The law took effect upon becoming law. Its testing rules apply in the 2026–2027 school year and every school year after. Tennessee schools must let English learners use the same classroom language help on TCAP and state-required end-of-course tests. Students must have received that help during the school year, and the help must not invalidate the test. Qualifying help follows the student’s individual learning plan and comes from a teacher endorsed in English as a second language. If parents waived those services, qualifying help instead includes suitable language and learning supports from a general education classroom teacher.
