Morgan County switches to appointed county attorney
The law replaces election of Morgan County’s attorney with appointment or hiring subject to a county commission vote. The attorney must be licensed and practicing, serves a four-year term, and need not live in Morgan County. Current officeholders keep the rest of their existing terms. The law takes effect immediately for local approval or rejection; the selection changes require two-thirds approval by the county legislative body. Its presiding officer must announce approval or rejection and certify the result to Tennessee’s Secretary of State.
