New hiring rules for County Attorney

Under this law, the Morgan County Commission hires or appoints the County Attorney by vote for a four-year term. The attorney must be a licensed, practicing lawyer and does not have to live in Morgan County. Current officeholders keep serving until their elected terms end. These changes take effect only if two-thirds of the Morgan County legislative body approve them. The presiding officer must proclaim the result and certify it to the Tennessee Secretary of State.
