Beginning July 1, 2026, people who develop or deploy AI cannot tell the public that their AI is or can act as a qualified mental health professional. The law defines AI as systems that can reason and learn. A violation is an unfair or deceptive act under the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act. Each violation is subject to a $5,000 civil penalty, in addition to other Consumer Protection Act remedies.
