Beginning April 23, 2026, Tennessee limits its mental health commissioner’s power to change marijuana’s controlled-substance status. The restriction applies when federal law changes marijuana’s drug category or removes it from controlled-substance lists. The commissioner can follow that change only after state lawmakers create a marijuana regulatory framework and authorize the action. The law does not itself change marijuana’s status or create household benefits or duties.
