Coordinated support for Tennessee children with disabilities
Effective upon becoming law, Tennessee's Department of Children's Services and Department of Disability and Aging must work together on disability support. This covers children with intellectual or developmental disabilities in Children's Services custody or at risk of entering custody. Disability and Aging may develop staff training and advise on tools to monitor contractors providing residential care. Children's Services may refer children with suspected disabilities for service recommendations, and the agencies may make an agreement to guide their work. Children's Services must report to relevant legislative committee chairs by January 1, 2027, and annually afterward. Reports must include referral and evaluation counts, plus progress on contractor oversight tools, training, and care coordination. The law does not set a payment amount or guarantee a specific service.
