New dyslexia support endorsement for educators
Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee’s State Board of Education must create a qualified dyslexia interventionist endorsement for educators. It authorizes targeted instruction, academic support, behavioral support, or related services for students showing signs of dyslexia. Applicants must hold a Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (C-SLDI) credential. The Center for Effective Reading Instruction issues this credential in partnership with the International Dyslexia Association. Applicants must also meet any additional board requirements, which may include extra coursework or passing a test. Educators without the endorsement can still provide these services if otherwise authorized.
