New school property tax funding rules

The law removes the weighted pupil unit value rate from the property tax rates used to fund public schools. School boards must impose the minimum basic tax rate to qualify for state funding. This applies to fiscal years beginning after July 1, 2022. Ongoing funding for the Teacher and Student Success Account stays in place. The law does not specify whether an individual property tax bill rises or falls, or by how much.
