More earnings flexibility for retired emergency workers

Beginning July 1, 2025, eligible Utah retirees can keep retirement payments while doing affiliated emergency services work within one year after retirement. At retirement, they must be at least 50 for public safety or firefighter systems, or 55 for other systems. The old $500 monthly cap becomes a calendar-year limit: the lesser of $15,000 or half their final average salary. The retirement board adjusts this limit annually for inflation. Qualifying death or line-of-duty insurance premiums and duty-related expense reimbursements do not count toward the limit.
