Financial institutions; check cashers; expiration of registration. Provides that for check cashers registered with the State Corporation Commission, such registration shall automatically expire if a registrant fails to pay the annual registration fee by July 1 of each year. The bill has a delayed effective date of January 1, 2027.

New fees and July 1 deadline for check cashers

Beginning January 1, 2027, each check-casher registration form must include a $200 nonrefundable fee. Registered check cashers also pay a yearly fee set by the Commission, up to $250. The annual fee is due by July 1 each year. If it is not paid by July 1, the registration automatically expires.

Reporting rules and fee fund for check cashers

Beginning January 1, 2027, all fees paid under this law go to the state treasury and the Financial Institutions Special Fund at the State Corporation Commission. Registered check cashers must file annual or other reports as the Commission requires.
