Directs the Office of the Attorney General to convene a work group to review the Electronic Funds Transfers Act, develop recommendations to aid individuals in the Commonwealth in preventing and mitigating fraudulent activity in electronic fund transfers, and submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly no later than December 1, 2026.

Attorney General team to fight transfer scams

The law requires the Virginia Attorney General to convene a work group on electronic fund transfer fraud. The group reviews the Electronic Funds Transfer Act and Regulation E, and studies recent fraud reports. Members include the Attorney General’s Office, the State Corporation Commission’s Bureau of Financial Institutions, banks, credit unions, consumer groups, and other stakeholders. The group develops recommendations to help Virginians prevent and limit losses from impersonation scams and phone or digital schemes. The Attorney General must send findings and recommendations to House and Senate commerce committee chairs by December 1, 2026.
