School buses for community use, with limits

School boards can sign agreements letting third‑party logistics firms, local governments, and state agencies use school buses. Uses can be for public needs, including rides for seniors, and for some private uses. Each deal must repay the school board’s full share of fixed and variable costs. The user must carry insurance that meets state minimums, or a local government can reimburse the board for its share of insurance costs. The user must also protect the school board from any legal claims tied to the use. Limits apply: companies cannot carry paying passengers or do paid home deliveries with school buses.
