Virginia voters get later ballot deadlines

Beginning January 1, 2027, Virginia extends three ballot deadlines from noon to 5 p.m. on the third day after Election Day. Qualifying provisional voters must get a copy of accepted identification or a signed identity statement to the electoral board by that deadline. Mailed absentee ballots arriving after polls close can count if received before that deadline and postmarked by Election Day. The voter must be eligible to vote. For absentee ballots received by the Friday before Election Day, corrections to problems identified by the registrar must be completed and received by the new deadline; corrected ballots count if the voter is eligible.
