All town fees go to Treasurer
All Town fees must be paid to the Town Treasurer. Town officers may not keep or use the fees they collect. Starts June 2, 2025.
Barre can replace auditor with annual audit
At an annual or special meeting, Barre voters can end the elected Town Auditor. A Vermont-licensed public accountant then does a yearly audit of all Town funds. If the office ends, the Selectboard handles the other auditor duties. Any current auditor’s term ends on the earlier date: 45 days after the vote or when the Selectboard signs the audit contract. Starts June 2, 2025.
Vermont approves Barre charter changes
The State approves Barre’s charter changes that voters passed on May 14, 2024. It removes the elected Town Auditor section and related election and pay language from the charter. Takes effect June 2, 2025.
