Disabled veterans get free metered parking

Beginning July 1, 2026, vehicles displaying disabled veteran plates issued by any state can park at meters without paying. The fee exemption applies while the vehicle displaying those plates is parked at a meter.

Military spouses get State hiring help

Beginning July 1, 2026, Vermont must make a diligent effort to recruit, interview, and hire spouses of currently serving U.S. military personnel. These efforts must follow applicable collective bargaining requirements, State hiring law, and State and federal affirmative action standards. Qualifying spouses also get 5 extra exam points in State open competitive hiring that uses point-based exams. Applicants must meet the job requirements and pass the exam to receive the points. Neither the hiring effort nor the extra points guarantees a job.
