New Burlington districts and wards for elections
The law approves Burlington charter changes voters passed on March 4, 2025. Burlington now has four election districts—East, Central, South, and North—with two wards each (eight total). Pairings: East: Wards 1 and 8; Central: 2 and 3; South: 5 and 6; North: 4 and 7. These districts apply for the 2024 annual meeting and all city elections after. The City Council can change boundaries after each census or to fix unequal maps; voters must approve, and changes take effect on approval unless a later date is set.
Law takes effect April 27, 2026
This act is now law. It took effect when the Governor signed it on April 27, 2026. All parts apply unless a section sets a later date.
