Faster judge review after arrest
Beginning July 2, 2026, when police arrest someone, they must quickly contact a judicial officer for a temporary release decision. They must send a sworn statement with the facts and the crimes they plan to charge. Presiding judges may require the statement to list the charges the prosecutor plans to file and any requested release conditions. Those can include bail or a request to hold without bail.
