Backup process for parties to pick electors

Political parties still meet at the state capitol at 10:00 a.m. on the first Tuesday in October of a presidential year to choose presidential electors. If a party has no nominees for the Senate or Assembly from its primary, no state officer, and no holdover state senator, the state party chair must act. By 10:00 a.m. that same Tuesday, the chair names one elector for each congressional district and two at‑large, and must immediately certify the names to the commission chair. This ensures each party has a full slate of electors even when it has no other state candidates.
