Party chairs gain elector nomination role
In Wisconsin presidential election years, parties normally nominate presidential electors through a convention. The law creates an alternative for parties with no state senate or assembly primary nominee, state officer, or holdover state senator. Their state committee chair must instead nominate one elector per congressional district and two statewide electors. The deadline is 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday in October before the presidential election. The chair must immediately certify the nominees’ names to the commission chair.
