New registration rules for Wisconsin fleet owners

Wisconsin expands fleet registration to owners of 10 or more qualifying vehicles. Eligible vehicles include cars and motor trucks with gross weights up to 8,000 pounds, and motor trucks weighing 8,001–54,000 pounds. Truck or road tractors weighing 4,500–54,000 pounds and trailers weighing up to 80,000 pounds also qualify. A vehicle's current registration status does not prevent an initial fleet application, but the exclusions below still apply. Vehicles registered under sections 341.264, 341.30, or 341.305, or eligible under section 341.26, are excluded. The law ends the separate fleet-registration rule for 100 or more rental or hire trailers. Wisconsin's transportation department must issue distinctive plates showing “Fleet,” but the word no longer has to be raised.
