Manufactured home haulers can share trailer plates

Wisconsin expands its transporter plate program to cover manufactured homes, alongside modular homes and other portable buildings meant for people. Qualifying trailers and temporary undercarriages can travel on Wisconsin highways without separate trailer registration. They must display a valid transporter plate and be towed by a vehicle registered under section 341.25(2). The same plate can cover different trailers or undercarriages owned by the same person, including empty return trips. These trailers must be used only for the covered building transport and empty returns. Transporters must apply to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, qualify, and pay the unchanged fee based on maximum combined building-and-trailer weight. Registration and plates are valid only during the calendar year issued, and section 341.30(1)(c) still applies.
