Military families get longer school enrollment deadlines

Wisconsin extends the alternative application deadline for full-time public-school open enrollment from 30 to 90 days. This applies when military orders change both the student's and their parent or guardian's residence. The school board outside their home district must receive the application within 90 days after the orders are issued. Otherwise, the application is not valid under this exception. Covered orders now include any U.S. armed forces branch or reserve component, state defense force, or any state's National Guard. The change first applies to applications received on the effective date of the law's applicability provision.
