More sexual assault exam costs covered
More health costs from a sexual assault forensic exam are covered. Tests done during the evidence exam that check for or prevent sexually transmitted diseases are covered. HIV prevention medicine given or prescribed during the exam is covered when the examiner believes you could have been exposed. Medicines given or prescribed during the exam to prevent or treat sexually transmitted diseases are covered. Processing or administrative costs, attorney fees, and other expenses are not covered.
New medical record rules for exam awards
When you apply for an award for a sexual assault exam, you must submit medical reports from the doctor, physician assistant, or nurse who treated or examined you. The reports must relate to the evidence exam, STD testing or prevention, HIV prevention medicine, or medicines to prevent or treat an STD from that visit. Do not send other medical records. Only send records for the specific exam, test, treatment, prophylaxis, or medicine you want covered.
