Free public schooling for part-time students

Beginning July 1, 2026, Wyoming public schools must provide equal, free access, expressly including part-time students. The enrollment rules apply starting with the 2026–2027 school year and continue each year after that. Children must be Wyoming residents, at least 5 by August 1, and under 21. An approved request allows the fifth-birthday deadline to be September 15 instead. Enrollment remains subject to applicable law and school board rules. A parent, guardian, or custodian can also apply for the existing Education Savings Account program on an eligible child's behalf. Districts must provide at least 175 in-person school days unless the State Board approves a different schedule. Before submitting a different schedule, district trustees must hold at least two advertised public meetings to explain it and answer questions. Districts using a different schedule must assess each year how well it meets their educational goals.
