Did you know2024
A lubricant company sits, surprisingly, inside the food-safety supply chain. Fuchs makes NSF H1 food-grade lubricants — oils and greases certified for incidental food contact that run inside food and beverage processing equipment: bottling and filling lines, ovens, conveyors, mixers and packaging machinery. Ordinary industrial lubricant on a food line is a contamination hazard; H1 lubricants exist precisely so that the unavoidable trace of lubricant near food is safe. So a maker of engine oils and metalworking fluids is also a quiet node in food manufacturing, where its specialty product is a hygiene and regulatory control point on the production line.
Fuchs SE ↗Concentration2024
Fuchs is the largest lubricant company in the world that is not owned by an oil major. Shell, ExxonMobil, BP/Castrol and TotalEnergies all sell lubricants as a downstream extension of their oil business; Fuchs — a family-controlled German company founded in 1931 — is a pure-play, independent lubricants specialist and the biggest of its kind. That independence is itself strategically meaningful: it gives industrial buyers a major lubricant supply source whose availability and priorities are not tied to an integrated oil company's refining decisions, a diversification point in a market otherwise dominated by the majors.
