Kanto Denka Kogyo (TSE: 4286) was founded in 1938 in Gunma Prefecture, Japan, originally as an electrochemical company producing chlorine-based chemicals using cheap hydroelectric power — the same business model that spawned most early fluorine chemistry companies. The company pivoted to fluorine chemistry in the postwar period, developing expertise in HF (hydrofluoric acid) and fluorinated gas synthesis. By the 1980s it became a key supplier of NF₃ and specialty gases to Japan's growing semiconductor industry.
