§407f Exchange of Lands

Summary

The Secretary of the Interior may trade 2,721.12 acres of State-owned land in the area described in section 407e for about 2,719.80 acres of Federal land of roughly equal value. The lands are specific parcels in the New Mexico principal meridian (listed by township and range in the law), and any trade can include terms, conditions, and reservations the Secretary thinks are needed, including reserving surface rights-of-way across Federal lands in township 25 south, range 24 east for roads and utility lines between park headquarters and Rattlesnake Springs. The Secretary may also exchange certain private parcels in the same area (in township 25 south, range 24 east, and township 26 south, range 22 east) on an equal-value basis. If a trade involves State-leased land in section 32, township 24 south, range 24 east, the Secretary may pay the lessee for improvements, using an impartial appraisal to set the value.
