It is illegal for anyone to run a business making, importing, or selling guns without paying the special tax or registering as required. It is also illegal to make, transfer, receive, possess, transport, or import a firearm in ways this chapter forbids — for example, guns made or moved illegally, guns not registered to the holder, or guns brought into the U.S. against the rules. You may not remove, change, or erase a gun’s required serial number, have a gun with its ID number missing or altered, or knowingly put false information on any required form or record.
