Treats certain illnesses in eligible veterans as having been caused or made worse by military service, even if there is no medical record from the time of service. This rule applies to a set list of illnesses. The list includes asthma diagnosed after service; many cancers (head, neck, respiratory, gastrointestinal, reproductive, lymphoma, kidney, brain, melanoma, and pancreatic); and many lung and breathing problems such as chronic bronchitis, COPD, constrictive or obliterative bronchiolitis, emphysema, granulomatous disease, interstitial lung disease, pleuritis, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, chronic sinusitis, chronic rhinitis, and glioblastoma. It also covers any other disease the Secretary of Veterans Affairs adds when it is linked to a listed toxin. Covered veteran — the kind of veteran defined under 1119(c) of this title.
