The Secretary must decide whether to create or to remove rules that treat certain illnesses as caused by military service because of toxic exposure. To do this, the Secretary must, under section 1172, give public notice of planned formal reviews and let people comment. A working group under section 1172(b) must advise the Secretary about veterans and dependents who may have had toxic exposures, suggest fixes to the Individual Longitudinal Exposure Record, and point out which exposure cases to review. The Secretary must run formal evaluations of those recommendations under section 1173, consider reports from the National Academies under section 1176, and write regulations under section 1174. Definitions: "illness" means a disease or other health condition, including mental and physical health. "Individual Longitudinal Exposure Record" means the data system under section 996 of title 10.
