Title 38 › Part V— BOARDS, ADMINISTRATIONS, AND SERVICES › Chapter 76— HEALTH PROFESSIONALS EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM › Subchapter III— TUITION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM › § 7622
To join the Tuition Reimbursement Program, you must be a full-time Department employee permanently assigned to a Department health-care facility and be enrolled in an approved school working toward an associate degree or higher in nursing, or a master’s or doctoral nursing degree. When picking participants, the Secretary will favor studies that quickly increase the number of registered nurses in the Department, then give priority to current full-time Nursing Service employees in the Veterans Health Administration and to people who have used the program before. The agreement will say the Department pays tuition after you successfully finish required courses or required prerequisites if the school confirms they are needed. You must keep working full time at the facility while enrolled and must work full time for one year after finishing the course you were reimbursed for. Reimbursement cannot be more than $2,000 per year (adjusted under section 7631). The Secretary may also pay a school to teach courses at the facility, up to the total amount that would have gone to the students.
