Title 38 › Part V— BOARDS, ADMINISTRATIONS, AND SERVICES › Chapter 76— HEALTH PROFESSIONALS EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM › Subchapter VI— EMPLOYEE INCENTIVE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM › § 7672
VA employees can get a scholarship to pay for certain education or training if they meet the rules. To apply, a person must have worked for the Department without a break for at least one year when they apply and must be accepted or enrolled as a full- or part-time student in a field that leads to appointment or staying in a job under section 7401. The Secretary may give a scholarship only to applicants with a Veterans Health Administration work record that, in the Secretary’s judgment, shows a strong chance they will finish the training and work in that field. The scholarship can cover a specified 1 to 3 school years (and will include any extra years approved under section 7673(c)(2)). A participant must agree to work full-time for the Veterans Health Administration for a service period set by the Secretary — up to 3 calendar years for each school year or part of a school year covered, but not less than 3 years overall. The participant must work at a facility the Secretary selects. If the student is part-time, the work obligation is cut in proportion to their credit hours, but it cannot be less than 1 year.
