Return of 20,052 Native Cultural Items
If you are a member or representative of the Ione Band of Miwok Indians or the Wilton Rancheria, California State University, Sacramento intends to return 20,052 unassociated funerary cultural items to those tribes. The university plans to carry out repatriation on or after February 18, 2025.
Who May Request Repatriation and Process
If you are a lineal descendant, an Indian Tribe, or a Native Hawaiian organization not identified in this notice, you may submit a written request for repatriation showing by a preponderance of the evidence that you are a lineal descendant or culturally affiliated. Repatriation to a requester may occur on or after February 18, 2025; competing requests will be resolved by the university and joint requests are treated as a single request.
At Least 10 Objects Still Missing
At least 10 of the cultural objects are currently missing and California State University, Sacramento continues to search for them. Those missing items are not included in the planned repatriation unless they are recovered.
