DHS Authorized to Recall Coast Guard Reservists

On July 15, 2025 the President extended the invocation of 10 U.S.C. 12302 to the Secretary of Homeland Security so the Secretary can call up members of the United States Coast Guard Reserve. This makes Coast Guard reservists eligible for recall to support operations at the southern maritime border under the same authority previously used for the military Ready Reserve.

Immediate Boost to Maritime Border Security

The notice (July 15, 2025) makes Coast Guard reservists available under 10 U.S.C. 12302 to help secure maritime borders, joining the Ready Reserve already recalled under Proclamation 10886 of January 20, 2025. The administration says this action increases government resources to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the United States and its maritime approaches.
