Public Safety and Gas Supply Improved

PHMSA says updating to the ASTM D2513 2024 edition will maintain or improve public safety and help align regulations with newer materials, testing, and practices. The agency also expects the update to help increase pipeline transportation capacity and improve operators' ability to provide reliable, affordable natural gas.

Operators Must Adopt ASTM D2513-24

If you operate pipelines or work for a pipeline company, the rule incorporates the ASTM D2513 2024 edition (ASTM D2513-24e1, approved July 1, 2024) into federal regulations. Pipeline operators must follow the updated standard effective January 1, 2027, and PHMSA authorizes compliance after June 23, 2026.

Standard Available Free To Read Online

PHMSA notes the incorporated ASTM D2513 standard is available free to the public through ASTM's reading room website to satisfy statutory availability requirements. Interested parties and operators can access the standard online via ASTM's standards reading room as described in the rule.
