Continuation of Free Crisis Help

The National Runaway Safeline (NRS) will continue offering free crisis support and referrals (shelters, counseling, medical help) to youth at risk of running away or becoming homeless and their families at no cost. The agency plans to request OMB approval to continue this data-backed service beyond the current expiration date of May 31, 2026.

Aggregate Data, No Personal IDs

The NRS will provide data to the Family and Youth Services Bureau in aggregate form and will not collect personally identifiable information (PII) from callers, chat users, email contacts, or forum posts. The collected aggregate data include counts, demographics, referrals, and trends.

Estimated Time Burden on Respondents

People contacting the NRS will spend time completing two online forms: the Youth in Crisis Form (47,175 responses at 0.23 hours per response) and the NRS Live Chat Form (29,679 responses at 0.65 hours per response). The agency estimates a total annual respondent burden of 10,047 hours.
