Sponsored By: Senator Lee, Mike [R-UT]

In Committee

Summary

Would convey about 24 acres of Dixie National Forest land to Brian Head Town, Utah, for public safety, a public works facility, and expanded recreational access. The bill would direct the Secretary of Agriculture, acting through the Chief of the Forest Service, to transfer the parcel shown on a map dated April 28, 2025, to the town without payment and to adjust the Dixie National Forest boundary to reflect that transfer. The conveyance would be subject to terms the Secretary sets and include a reversion process that allows the land to return to the United States if used for unauthorized purposes after notice, consultation with the State of Utah, an opportunity for a hearing if requested, public notice and comment, and a chance for the town to correct the use.

Forest land transfer to Brian Head

If enacted, the Forest Service would transfer about 24 acres of Dixie National Forest land to Brian Head Town, Utah. The land is shown on a map dated April 28, 2025. The town would get title without paying money, subject to terms the Secretary finds appropriate. The town could use the land to build public safety and public works facilities and to expand recreational access. The Dixie National Forest boundary would be changed after the transfer. If the town used the land for purposes not allowed, title could revert to the United States only after consultation with Utah, notice, a hearing if requested, public comment, and a reasonable chance to fix the problem.
