Show full summary
  • Airport drivers and ground workers would see recommendations for uniform movement-area driver safety training, stronger recurrent training, and expanded training for paved surfaces adjacent to runways and taxiways.
  • Airport sponsors and contractors would get guidance on attestation that personnel are authorized to operate movement-area vehicles and on barriers to adopting new training technologies such as cost and workforce availability.
  • FAA, safety agencies, and technology providers would be engaged to evaluate current and emerging tools like surface-detection and situational-awareness systems and to recommend technology and procedural changes to cut vehicle-involved surface events.

The Task Force must submit a final report with its recommendations to the Administrator and to congressional transportation committees within 1 year.

Grants for airport vehicle safety

If enacted, the Secretary of Transportation would provide grants to airport sponsors from amounts under 49 U.S.C. 47115(j) for fiscal years 2027 through 2031. Grants would pay to buy, install, operate, and maintain vehicle movement-area technology and to acquire, license, and use technology-enabled training systems and services for vehicle operators. The Secretary would give priority to projects that reduce vehicle-involved surface events, improve situational awareness or radio communications, fit an airport's layout, or show cost or access barriers. These grants would not be subject to 49 U.S.C. 47115(j)(3)(A)-(D) and would not limit eligibility for other airport funding.
