Thai Tire Sellers Face US Dumping Penalties

Published Date: 5/13/2025

Notice

Summary

The U.S. checked tire sales from Thailand between July 2022 and June 2023 and found that Prinx Chengshan Tire and Sumitomo Rubber sold their tires in the U.S. for less than fair prices. This means these companies might have to pay extra duties to level the playing field. Other Thai tire sellers also sold below fair prices, so changes could affect many importers and prices soon.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Prinx and Sumitomo Found to Undersell

The Department of Commerce found that Prinx Chengshan Tire (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Rubber (Thailand) Co., Ltd. sold passenger vehicle and light truck tires in the U.S. at prices below normal value during July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. Because of this finding, those companies may be required to pay antidumping duties, which can raise costs for U.S. importers and downstream buyers.

Other Thai Exporters Also Underselling

Commerce also determined that the non-individually examined Thai producers/exporters of these tires sold subject merchandise in the U.S. at prices below normal value for July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. This broader finding means additional importers of Thai passenger vehicle and light truck tires could face antidumping duties and higher costs.
